Gale Shoemaker passed February 25th, 2019 at the age of 87. Gale had just moved back to Leesburg, Florida for the winter when a growing tumor appeared on his neck. After consultation with doctors in Florida confirmed that it was malignant, he decided to come home in January so that he could undergo treatment at the University of Michigan Hospital Cancer Center. As it turns out, the tumor was fast growing and treatment was ineffective. Gale decided to enter hospice and move into his son Gary’s home, where he spent the last few days of his life surrounded by family.
Gale’s wife of 30 years, Mona’s passing precedes his by 5 years. Gale is survived by his daughters Dara and Kim, and his son, Gary. Also, his son-in-law John, daughter-in-law Lori, Mona’s daughter and son-in-law Lorrie and Garry, and nine grandchildren.
Growing up in St. Clair Shores, Gale spent many days of his life on Lake St. Clair and shared his time with many. He was a great man who deserves a great send off. Please join us at Gale’s favorite sailing club, North Star, for his Celebration of Life on May 11th from 1 PM to 5 PM. We will tell great stories and view some amazing pictures of Gale’s life while sharing a cold beer and a bite to eat. We look forward to seeing you there!
